Andy and Jerry are business partners and advertising executives in the making. The only obstacle to Jerry's happiness is if Andy falls in love and loses himself in long-term relationship. Long term engagements are a huge distraction at work. As a result, Jerry sabotages his "best friend's" relationships and in turn ruins his life. Andy never suspects a thing but he does realize in fairly short order that he needs to be his own man.
At this critical juncture in his career and life, Andy is ripe for a change. Things really clock when he meets Vanessa (Annable). Vanessa is tall, beautiful, and she has a wonderful singing voice. On his way to introduce himself to this debutante bar singer is our diffident Andy. Unfortunately, the instant she finished singing, Vanessa races away. Andy pursues her and his endeavor lands him smack-dab in the middle of a sex-addicts meeting. Apparently the demure Ms. Vanessa is a reformed stripper and sexaholic, but aren't we all? Here's looking at you Lindsay Lohan! The mainstays of the group are the Fonz (Henry Winkler), the mmmm hmmmm'ing black woman (Kym Whitley), Herman (Tom Arnold, oy guvalt), and the chronic masturbator a la Pee Wee Herman, Donny (Rob Benedict). Together they are a circus, and not one I would purchase tickets to go see.
While vying to become an executive, Jerry's plans are derailed when Andy falls in love. He begins sabotaging his friend's love life with malicious intent and lies. Andy tells the sex addicts that he is a normal guy but while protecting them as he would any of his friends (he is quite sublime), the derring-do-gooder finds himself in some "stick" situations (Schmegma). Vanessa is the apple of his eye, but beware, the Lord of Pussytown has his own agenda.
Writer/Director of Group Sex, Lawrence Trilling, is a pervert, and in the words of Ron Burgundy, "in no way is that a bad thing." The man that has created a character to be the "Lord of Pussytown", and an entire group of hooker and maturbatorily (I invented the word so deal with it)addicted deviants deserves our praise. Those that want to deem Group Sex a travesty of a motion picture would have done well to ignore it in the first place. Seriously readers, the film is called Group Sex, not Animal Planet Volume 5. Screen Spotlight gives Group Sex 3 and a half stars...One for its rumpus nature, one for Tom Arnold and 1.5 for Odette Annable the hottiest of hotties.
