Snow Buddies opens up in Fernfield, Washington where we are once again re-introduced to those golden retriever rugrat pups, the buddies. Rosebud, Buddha, Mud Bud, Budderball, and B Dog are up to their old antics as usual and hijinx are sure to follow! During what begins as a simple game of hide and go seek, the buddies find themselves locked inside a crate of ice cream headed for Alaska! Alone and miles from home in a strange frozen land that is foreign to them, the buddies meet a young Siberian husky named Shasta (voiced by Dylan Sprouse). The buddies, it turns out, are an answer to Shasta’s owner, Adam’s (Dominic Scott Kay) Christmas wishes. Adam had asked for five more dogs to complete his sled team so he could train them and compete in the big race. Along with the help of the mysterious Talon (Kris Kristofferson), the dogs learn to become a great team. With Adam at the helm, Shasta and the buddies join the race and take on the evil Jean George (John Kapelos). Keep an ear out for the voice talents of Whoopi Goldberg and Molly Shannon.

       Reviewing this movie is surely not a simple task. There is not much to it and really not very many technicalities to discuss. Is this great? No. Will this be showered with awards and other accolades? Hardly! Was it the intention of Disney to take Hollywood by storm with the release of Snow Buddies? NO! This film was simply made to amuse the toddler set.

       The story is quite fur-gettable and if you dissect the whole thing, it seems amazingly fur-fetched (I’m a wordsmith aren’t I?), but that’s not the point! My five year old loved to see the puppies and the story was simple enough for her to understand exactly what was going on. The acting was decent at best, but as I have been repeating, the kids won’t notice! The bottom line here is that if you can quote from memory most of the lines from Glengarry Glen Ross and the gory nature of the killings in 2008's Rambo sends you into fits of hysterical laughter, this is probably going to be a movie that you will find less than appealing. On the other hand, if each morning your mother straps you into a Blues Clues diaper or helps you put on your favorite pair of Bob The Builder undershorts, this film might just be right up your alley.
