Imagine That is Eddie Murphy’s latest attempt at becoming relevant and or bankable. Typically movies such as Meet Dave and Norbit would be seen as career killers. When this happens stars do one of two things; they either enlist as cartoon movie voice specialists or star in Disney films. Eddie Murphy has chosen the latter. For years he entertained millions as one of America’s biggest stars…
Murphy used to excel when challenged with a difficult go-nowhere role. In Bowfinger he produced comedy that had otherwise no chance of being recognizably funny. Beverly Hills Cop 1-3 made him a huge superstar. Norbit and the Nutty Professor 1-2 reversed everything for the now struggling actor. His films often earn far less than the cost of production, and that includes DVD rental sales. What will it take for the dethroned "king of comedy" to you know, actually make audiences laugh??? Hell folks, I love the Adventures of Pluto Nash which is simple a D- movie. Murphy’s charm carried the dreadful low budget movie, but lately, starring as a farting 500 pound beast is simply not cutting the cheese, I mean mustard.
Here is hoping he can revitalize his career soon and for the benefit of fans. Let’s give Owen Wilson some morphine and tell him to make I Spy 2 with Murphy, perhaps it will have the same rub Paul Rudd had for Sean William Scott when his career seemed on the verge of total failure.
