Land of the Lost…Isn’t this where Will Ferrell’s career lives? Many people loved Anchorman, although an equal if not greater number think of it as lacking humor, dignity or anything resembling acting…
The movie Superstar did not help his cause. Semi Pro is one of my favorites, although, again, most people view it as a gargantuan flop. Melinda Melinda is an hilarious film in which Ferrell plays a limited albeit important role. Stranger than Fiction is a novelist's dream movie, perhaps minus Queen Latifah. Having learned from his role in MM, Ferrell seems to have found the perfect combination of humour and angst to portray Harold, the fictional character brought to life in the most harrowing and agonizing fashion possible. His comedy works when challenged by misfortune. Talladega Nights is one of the most pathetic and directionless movies of all time. The only saving grace for the movie is Michael Clark Duncan who has a charming personality. Blades of Glory is another nauseating disgrace of a movie, and hopefully one that audiences have forgotten. Step Brothers is eerily similar to these other films but it is so dark and deeply sick that it comes across as wildly funny. Even my mother enjoyed the drum set scene lol!
Kudos to Ferrell for trying despite having more strikes than home runs. This brings us to his latest and most criticized picture, Land of the Lost. I earlier quipped that Ferrell’s career lives there. Critics hate this movie. Moviegoers in droves have sounded off and they despise this movie. Yet, if history is any indicator, he will be back sooner rather than later starring in yet another comedy picture. Who knows, the next one might by hysterical!
