The King of outrageous is back for the sequel. The one and only man who cannot be killed, Chev Chelios has returned and this time he guarantees to have your adrenaline pumping and your heart racing! Abandon all logic and strap yourself in for another wild and crazy ride the likes of which you can only find in this series…
Crank: High Voltage continues telling the tale of assassin for hire, Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) and the many different fiends from all walks of life who just can’t seem to give him a break. After miraculously surviving a fall from a helicopter at 30,000 feet, Chelios is immediately whisked away to a makeshift operating table where his heart "that cannot die" is torn from his chest and replaced with an electrical version meant only to last for a few hours at best. Our makeshift hero of sorts then tears through the city on a crazy, maniacal, off the wall hunt for the villains who stole his heart. Assured by his less than ethical doctor Doc Miles (Dwight Yoakam) that if he retrieves his heart it can be reattached, Chev Chelios will literally stop at nothing to save his own life. Forced to keep his fake heart pumping, he "electrically charges" himself by any and all hysterical means necessary as the chase continues.
Hilarious! This movie exceeded my expectations. I believe I enjoyed its predecessor a bit more, but this definitely held up to standard. The action and the ridiculousness of it all might actually have you rolling on the floor laughing. Jason Statham reprises his role brilliantly and shows that he really knows how to command this character in such a way that you can’t help but root for his unorthodox methods. Although I’m not a huge fan of some of her work, Amy Smart playing Chelios’ girlfriend Eve does better here than in the original Crank, and if rumors are true and a Crank 3D is in the works, she might finally fully impress me. Also worth mentioning (in my opinion), a valiant return to the silver screen in a small, but noticeable role as Eve’s pimp/on/off beau is made by none other than one half of the infamous Coreys (http://www.screenspotlight.com/content/view/197/35/), Corey Haim. His comedic timing is just great and I’m excited to see his return. Great things loom!
This is a fun flick. Don’t go in expecting a dose of reality because it is the opposite. Packed full of off the wall humor, adult variety comic effect, and some grand one liners, you are sure to have a blast. Be warned that much of the humor is on the R rated side if that makes a difference to you, but I wouldn’t claim any of this to be too raunchy by today’s standards. This is a ride you’re sure to enjoy and I would whole heartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a god bit of a chuckle.
