I wouldn't say this movie is a hidden gem, but possibly, Formica, or quartz. I found something here appealing. From the one liners "Love, the kind that is wet and smells a little", to the student slaves; Monica Potter's desk drawer full of oddities and a boxing ring melee for Physical Education.
As a In order to enjoy this film, you need to work in the school system or have gone to a boarding school. This is the dumbest smart comedy I have seen to date, and appreciate it all the same. I don’t know if I would coin this as a cult classic, but it is definitely off the beaten path, and worth the time to watch if you need to just kick back and relax.
The premise is simple, a coke sniffing embezzling principle is on the warpath to shut down his school and make off with money. The movie opens with the principal offering scotch to a parent while accepting a bribe for 15K to give his kid straight A's. On the flipside of the coin, Eva Longoria and Jason Biggs are trying to salvage the school and clean up the bad element. Personally, I would have fought to keep the school open and operate as is. Something priceless here, Nyquil to sedate the students, running the train tracks for detention, and a demented sex-ed film, which even freaked me out. With that being said, if you like dark comedies and are in the mood for something different, this is a good movie to start with.
