The killer (played by Nicolas Tucci) always offers the unsuspecting victims a choice. In one instance a young girl has to decide which one of her parents will live and which one will be (pardon the cliché) gutted like a fish. A burgeoning musician is given the choice between having his fingers irreparably severed or losing his hearing. Unable to decide in the allotted time the instrument specialist loses his livelihood when the killer arbitrarily slices his fingers off with surgical precision. All ten are unable to be reattached. These two gruesome crimes are but a taste of what this psychopath forces his victims to endure.
While the innocent (italicized because according to Dr. Gregory House nobody is innocent) endure great tragedy, the investigating officer (Kevin Pollak as Sheriff Tom Wagner) and his daughter Katheryn Winnick as Fionaaaaaaa) begin unraveling the mystery behind the psycho's identity and methodology. This causes them to come into the murderer's crossfire as it were. Fiona is clever and headstrong which aids her in solving the serial crimes. Moreover, why is it that the killer only allows his quarry 60 seconds to decide their own fate?
Choose presents a relatively original concept in the world of puppeteering horror pictures. Kevin Pollak always provides a veteran presence to any cadre of characters. Katheryn Winnick is not Hollywood's typical eye candy. She can act and do so with a measure of versatility and aplomb. Nicolas Tucci portrays the killer as well as Tobin Bell depicts Jigsaw although with less fanfare to be sure. For those of you eager to watch a decent horror picture look no further than Choose, at least you can be assured of making the right choice!
