This review is part one of a tripartite article. Part one will merely introduce the series finale. Part two will discuss the villain Bane and his quality as a foil for both Batman and Gotham City. Part three will address the impact of Batman as a franchise and predict what will become of its legacy.

Batman The Dark Knight Rises is 164 minutes long (nearly three hours). The estimated budget for the film skyrocketed to approximately $250,000,000.00. That is not chump change ladies and gentlemen, the expectation is that the film will gross a billion dollars worldwide. Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan have sworn off the franchise permanently which is surprising considering the ending leaves a gaping hole needing to be filled by Batman's sidekick Robin. Sufficed to say, The Dark Knight Rises is a visual spectacle, it offers enduring messages, and the stagecraft is unlike anything I have ever heretofore seen.
