Jon Voight plays an emotionally wounded detective. During his first ever missing persons case, a young girl named Aurora was unable to be recovered in time. This tragedy has afflicted his soul for his entire career. When the chief's niece is abducted, the trail seems to run cold. The babysitter's friend (portrayed by Julian Morris) just t so happens to have a television program where he has visions about missing people. Though a suspect, the babysitter nevertheless brings in the psychic and he begins solving the case. Viewers come to find out that Voight and Morris share a connection. They both have painful visions of events as if through the eyes of the kidnapped victims. Together, albeit begrudgingly, suspicious of one another, and perhaps painfully, the two men unravel the mystery of little Amy's vanishing. When the secret of their connection is revealed, the aftermath is hair raising.

After watching Jon Voight's performance in the movie Beyond it is personally dumbfounding why he never became a major star a la Mel Gibson or Michael Douglas. Voight is strictly sensational. He orchestrates all of the emotion in this film and does so with a mastery of his craft. Terri Polo, Dermot Mulroney and Julian Morris are nice supporting actors, but Voight steals the show. The detective almost comes to life as a tortured soul haunted by the past and desperate to prevent any more tragedy in the future. Director Josef Rusnak helps the actor's cause by providing the right fogginess, snowfall, and freeze breathing backdrops. The gloominess adds to the drama. Watch the Beyond trailer here and be assured this film is worth every second of your attention.
