The Paperman animated film short produced by Disney will make romantics laugh, smile, and then cry, in that precise order. The film's running length is a shade under seven minutes. If a short this, well, short, can you viewers feel a half-a-dozen emotions in record time, then it must be a work of art. Watch Paperman here.
Hotel Transylvania (movie) is a magical monster mash. Not only has Adam Sandler assembled an all-star team loaded for bear, he has once again proven that his comedy style adapts perfectly when transitioned into the realm of animation. When Dracula's (Sandler) daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) is on the verge of turning 118 years of age (apparently the beginning of adulthood in the vampire universe), all inferno breaks loose. Dracula's monster haven hotel is prepared for hundreds of undead guests coalescing for Mavis' momentous occasion. This will be one coming out party that is ironically full of life.

As recently as last weekend Screen Spotlight offered its official proclamation that Frankenweenie is (or had been) the best animated feature film of 2012...and then we received Wreck It Ralph on DVD from the studio. Wreck It Ralph on DVD is Disney's 52nd animated film and is entirely computer generated. The studio has crossed or rather blurred the lines between modern contemporary animation and retro 1980s sub-standard graphics. This storyline is one of total redemption and perseverance. The humor is pure slapstick, just the way we like it. Wreck It Ralph on DVD has been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film by the Academy and we predict a slam dunk victory.
Frankenweenie (DVD) is masterpiece animation theater at its best. Never before have movie fans been treated to an animated reproduction of the story of Frankenstein that pays homage in such a reverent way to the original Mary Shelley novel. Indicative of director Tim Burton's respect for the old guard, Martin Landau, Catherine O'Hara and Martin Short play significant roles in this animated feature film. Burton has mastered the cinematic art of injecting vivacious personality into a polychromatic setting. Vibrant colors and off-the-wall characters have always been his shtick. It is refreshing to know that he is equally as versatile with black and white implements. Even the Bride of Frankenstein references are charming. Frankenweenie has our vote for best animated film of the year and deservedly so.
Rise of the Guardians is a beautiful holiday film. Although Disney Pixar produces many stunning animated films, Dreamworks is never far behind. The Guardians are a corpulent Santa Claus (North), the lovely Tooth Fairy, the malleable Sandman, the Australian Bunny (Easter), and their newest recruit, Jack Frost. Jack Frost loves throwing ice balls at children and providing them with snow days. Would it were I still lived in the Northeast and could be the beneficiary of a few snow days. The Guardians are facing a new old threat in the Boogeyman whose new sobriquet/cognomen is Pitch. This is no ordinary villain; Pitch is the-centuries-old villain that once dominated the darkness and lorded over all children. It is time for the Guardians to unite in a massive rescue effort to preserve the traditions of childhood.
