Puss in Boots Blu Ray

Puss In Boots began with classic humor and ended with a standard fairy tale whimper. There are plenty of swerves vis a vis Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis), Kitty Softpaws (Selma Hayek) and Jack (Billy Bob Thornton) and Jill (Amy Sedaris). However, all of their turncoat maneuvers are predictable, nonsensical and are conveyed as flat out boring. Despite having plenty of talented actors aboard the cast, the star of the show is Banderas whose voice makes the entire movie.

The beginning of PIB is precisely what I anticipated and craved. Puss seduces kitties, steals everything in sight, and offers his cuter than Fabio kitty kat visage to stave off severe bodily harm. As I wrote, that happened in the beginning. Everything else I have seen before, or been there and done that. Aside from the PG 5 minutes intended for adults, the rest is a G rated little children's film. Why would I, having a brain notwithstanding, expect anything more from Puss? Because the previews promised hilarity and epic greatness, that's why!!!

Humpty Dumpty may proclaim to be a "rotten egg" but truthfully with Galifianakis at the helm he is more a shell of his former self. Not even a king's ransom could pay for an architect to reassemble this character's shattered pieces. I have always been a Banderas fan through rain or shine. Without him, Puss In Boots would be a nonentity. There is not a moment of joy without him. The highlight of the story, the first few minutes of brilliance aside, has to be the history of a young Puss in the arms of his momma at a destitute orphanage. Those eyes can melt glaciers.

Let me phrase my evaluation this way; I wanted to love Puss In Boots 3D but I am not even sure I like it. All of the credit in the world goes to Antonio Banderas, but Director Chris Miller and screenwriter Chris Penault have created the perfect toddler's movie and fooled adults into buying tickets to a farce. Shame on me, they fooled me once, and probably will fool me twice when the sequel rolls around.
