Marley and Me

The newlyweds John (Owen Wilson) and Jennifer Grogan (Jennifer Aniston) had everything: a house in Miami, prominent jobs with popular newspapers, and they were just married… all they needed was a kid, right? Well, John took advice from his best friend to purchase a dog to distract his wife’s mind from having a child. Marley was the chosen puppy among the litter, also known as the "clearance pup". Little did they know they were in for a life-altering experience.  The movie revolved around the development of their marriage and friendships, their adventures with Marley, having children and making choices and decisions about the course of their lives.

This is a great family film. Marley and Me is very realistic, showing that in between problems and challenges, there are small things in life that can still make a person smile. The story encourages you not to give up something as big as a relationship just because of a disagreement. It shows that people should stand beside their partner and support them when they make a decision. The author and the directors demonstrate the happiness of having a dog as part of the family and the pain and impact of their eventual death.

Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston played their roles well. They showed how families go through problems in real life, which is not rainbows and roses all the time. When it rains, it pours. I was surprised with Wilson because this is the first time I saw him in a more serious role and it suits him well. If you haven’t watched it yet, watch it, bring your significant other (hopefully a dog lover), and bring a box of tissues because there will be tears shed. This is good for a romantic movie night.
