For me, the most missed show of all time was Exosquad. Exosquad was an innocuous cartoon produced by Universal from 1993-1995. I watched the show as my parents began divorcing and made absolutely certain to catch every episode on Saturday mornings. Unlike many other shows, this series built toward an endpoint. Every episode built on the other sort of like the show 24. The characters are all unique, thoroughly developed, and loaded with personality. The show almost seems to have been coincidentally a cartoon because it seems more real than most "real" programs.

       The plot is at once romantic and oh so human. Human beings in the twenty-second century had terraformed Mars and Venus and begun preparations for the rest of the solar system. In order to do the grunt work terran scientists created super-sized human prototypes known as neo-sapiens. The law of unintended consequences created differences between the two races and led to a power struggle and an ultimate neo-sapien rebellion. Unfortunately for them, the rebellion was crushed. The fallen leaders regrouped and planned to sabotage the human’s space fleet known as the Exofleet. While seeking to attack and eliminate the Pirates based on Typhus, the neo-sapiens struck with massive attacks on Earth and on all of the unprepared, half-strength Exofleet. Disaster struck as the humans lost the war and had to suffer a bitter exile to stave off extinction and remained on the brink of collapse. One of my biggest pet-peeves is to spoil the plot for any potential viewer so I will leave the premise at this brief explanation.

       I can only tell you that if you are on the market for a special show, an adult cartoon for the ages that builds like a crescendo effect, Exosquad is one of the most brilliant and heartfelt ever created. It combines science, imagination, real life issues, and some of the most evolved characters ever created. Give it a chance, check it out on www.Hulu.com where it is now available in its entirety for the first time. Regrettably, Universal cancelled it after season 2.
