Skyline

Once in blue moon a movie is created that causes me to question why it deserves to exist. “The Brothers Strause” have given us a disgraceful picture in Skyline, and in doing so, are reaping the rewards of our money in exchange for refuse. Skyline is equal parts The Matrix, Judgment Day, War of the Worlds, and E.T. Simultaneously, it is quite possibly the dumbest movie ever conceived and the flashiest. Honestly, the only success The Brothers Strause can claim is bamboozling unsuspecting movie lovers into parting with their hard-earned money. H.G. Wells is rolling in his grave over this monstrosity. Or maybe he is transforming into an indestructible alien life form with an indestructible body and a human brain stem. Imagine my jubilance watching the worst movie of 2010-2250. I realize this is an all too arbitrary length of time to designate Skyline as the most terrible picture, but I assure you I am neither joking nor embellishing!

Monsters

Half of Mexico is quarantined. The quarantined zone is littered with extra-terrestrial life forms first discovered by NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I thought most of the aliens had already come across the border. These extra-special creatures resemble octopi. They are terribly frightening and I hope my mom is available to console me before I slumber tonight.

Tron Legacy

Tron Legacy is a transformative film and one of the best movies of 2010. Along with the best graphic artists in the business, Director Joseph Kosinski has changed the way 3D movies operate and has defined for at least a decade what we expect to see from 3D films. Tron has been worth the nearly three decade long wait. I am glad the studio waited years to remake this cult classic until technology would allow it to be brought to life as the seemingly impossible spectacle is has turned out to be. I have never seen anything like it. It puts Avatar and Inception to shame while setting a new standard for filmmakers.

The Last Airbender on DVD and Blu-ray

M. Night Shyamalan is a distinguished writer/director for his concept films. In The Happening botanical life and Mother Nature decide that humans neglect and tamper with the natural cycle of the environment. Consequently they must be eradicated. Humans are infected with toxins and commit suicide en masse. In Signs with Mel Gibson alien invaders signal their attack with crop symbols in the middle of nowhere. Ironically the film went to the same place at the Box Office, nowhere. If critics are to be believed (and they almost never are) Shyamalan's latest incarnation The Last Airbender in 3D should be his last. From my point of view movie fans that have watched The Last Airbender for better or for worse are invested and should see the series through to the end. Sometimes films deserve a second chance/viewing and Airbender is one of those films.
