Storage Wars Season 3

Cliffhangers aside, I continue to watch because opening storage lockers is a spectacle. There is something peeping-Tom worthy about peering inside of other people's misfortune. The luck of the draw often brings enormous profits or staggering defeats. Darrell Sheets may be nicknamed "the gambler" but the entire show is a crap shoot.

For some ineffable reason, Barry Weiss continues to bid on overpriced lockers that look like roadside trash heaps in the hope of finding a rare collector's item. Dave Hester has gone from being "the mogul" to being "the pauper". Darrell is feuding with his son Brandon for no apparent reason and his tough love act seems more forced than Barak Obama's White Sox/Red Sox joke.

Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of Storage Wars Season 3 has been the interaction between Brandi and Jarrod. Brandi has slimmed down and looks damn fine, but her attitude is troubling. It seems as though she and Jarrod are more in love than ever but the writers insist on causing them to have mini-feuds about who wears the pants in the family. She comes across as petty and vexing while Jarrod seems like a moron for overspending.

Finally, the focus has been on the personal lives of the mainstays (Brandi, Jarrod, Darrell, Brandon, Dave, and Barry). This is a great idea in theory, but viewers start to wonder how the stars of a major hit television program can worry about losing a few hundred dollars in an auction. There is a little too much forgery and not enough real life in this purported unveiling. How can Dave Hester really lose his store and have to downsize when he is a famous TV star? Why would Barry spend $2,000 on a dumpster locker just to find 1 special item? Do Brandi and Jarrod really fight over prices? Is Darrell really suddenly such an intolerant jerk? The answer is probably not. Storage Wars used to be about the lockers, and now it's about the people. Maybe a better blending would make the show regain its luster. Or perhaps the whole concept of seeing the intimate possessions of the financially ruined has become old hat. Only time and the contents of those lockers will tell. How much money where folks?
